Miniature. Sa'di's visit to the idol of Somnath. Young prince enthroned in a pavilion, with two aged attendants; in the foreground five men lamenting and two others leading a third. Page from a poetical manuscript. Unknown miniaturist. Bodycolour including white with pen and ink and gold on paper, height 171 mm, width 101 mm, circa 1540. Bukhara School. Notes: This and PD.202-1948 have been removed at some time from MS262-1949, also Manuk-Coles bequest, the present drawing being f.109(b). This MS is a selection of the Bustan of Sa' di, and P.C. Manuk thought the two miniatures to be most probably by Bizad. Acquisition Credit: Bequeathed 1946 by P.C. Manuk and Miss G.M. Coles, through the National Art Collections Fund.
