This was instigated by Sir Philip Magnus, MP for Westminster, and the prize was to be awarded to a recipient chosen out of those achieving 70% or higher in their marks and who, for preference, resided within 20 miles of Stationers' Hall. It took the form of a medal, which was accordingly designed in 1911 by Allan Gairdner Wyon, to be presented at the City and Guilds London Institute. This is a specimen of that medal in bronze. The Museum also has one in white metal.
