  • The Great War: Britain's Efforts and Ideals. Tending the Wounded. Casualty Clearing Station in France. Shepperson, Claude Allin (British, 1867-1921). Ministry of Information. An oblique view through the open side of a tented hospital, the scene intersected by a row of strong diagonals representing guy ropes. A nurse and doctor are seen beside the bedside of a patient, another patient in a bed to the left. Ministry of Information. Three soldiers carrying a wounded man on a stretcher from an underground bunker barricaded by sandbags. Contained along with 6 lithographs inside a large portfolio (approx. 20"x27") of brown paper. A sheet with a central, red-printed rectangular box containing the stamp of the Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom (George V) as used by HM Government followed by the title, 'THE GREAT WAR: / BRITAIN'S EFFORTS / AND IDEALS / shown in a series of lithographic prints' / "Tending the Wounded" / Six subjects by / CLAUDE SHEPPERSON / A.R.W.S. / 48. "Advanced Dressing Station in France" ... 54. "Convalescence in England". The capital 'A' printed at lower left is the insignia of the printers of the series, The Avenue Press. This is also seen on the label affixed to the mounts. The central box of the title page is pasted onto the front flap of the portfolio. Ministry of Information. Portfolio of 6 prints.
