The mug is cylindrical with an applied loop handle which is of oval section with a rounded terminal. The exterior is painted with a naval officer in uniform, Admiral Rodney, kneeling and kissing the hand of George III, who holds in his left hand a scroll inscribed 'Jn STR' (last letter indistinct). The action is taking place in a room with a tiled floor, a long curtained window on the left, and a seascape with ships hanging on the wall to the right of the king. The scene has a curved borders of flowers and foliage on each side, and the back of the handle is also decorated with flowers and foliage. On either side of the handle terminal are the initials and date 'T C/17 83'. A narrow criss-cross border runs round the edge of the base.
