Pear-shaped with wide neck, small projecting lip, and reeded loop handle. On the neck an applied relief of King David playing a harp is repeated five times. In the intervals are painted, on one side of the neck, a boy, and on the other side, a spray of flowers. The shoulder below one of the reliefs at the front has a painted inscription, 'Nathaniel:/ Ireson/ 1748', the date enclosed in a rectangle. On the body there are various figures, including tritons, two fiddlers, and a piper; a cavalry charge; a large figure of a mounted solider; a gentleman escorting a lady, whose train is carried by two boys; grotesque Chinese figures; flying birds and ducks, and, to left of centre on the front, a jug, and a wine glass.The initials 'SB' are painted to right of centre front behind the lady and train-bearers The back of the handle is decorated with vertical lines of wave scrolls and a wavy line between vertical lines.
