An image of Broth bowl and cover/écuelle. Beschand, Philippe-Joseph, silversmith (French). The shallow bowl with flat bottom has two cast shaped-triangular lug handles, which are decorated with a shell on a matted ground . The domed cover is chased with a border of decorative gadroons round the flattened spherical knop, which is set with a coin of Louis XVI. The bowl and cover are engraved with a coat-of-arms. The bowl and cover are raised. The handles are cast and soldered to the bowl. The decoration is embossed and/or chased. Silver, height, to top of knop, 11.7 cm, width, across handles, 28.8 cm, diameter, bowl, 17 cm, weight, whole, 587 g, circa 1733-1734. Louis XV. Rococo.
