Maiolica. Holy water stoup. Unknown, maker, Puglia, Laterza. The shield-shaped back has two suspension holes at the top below moulded scrolls, and at the bottom a receptacle for Holy Water, formed by an applied half-cone moulded in relief with a winged cherub's head. On each side there is an applied twisted column with a pointed leaf at the base and a three-dimensional cherub at the top. St Anthony of Padua or St Dominic, stands facing to the left holding a bunch of lilies in his right hand and a book under his left arm. Dark buff earthenware, tin-glazed on the front. Painted in polychrome, with manganese-purple outlines and shading. Height, whole, 3.8 cm, diameter, whole, 22.0 cm, circa 1700- 1800. Baroque.
