      <note>
        <value>Probably made by Samuel Malkin, who signed a dish of similar shape decorated with a clock face, 'Samuel Malkin the Maker in Burslem 17', probably 1712, as the clock hand points to 12. (British Museum, inv. no. 1956,0705.01).
The title of the dish seems odd, as there are only two men shown, but the viewer is understood to be the third 'Logerhead'. Possibly the dish was made for an inn, as two are known with the name The Three Loggerheads, one at Loggerheads, near Ashley, in Staffordshire, about 13 miles away from Burslem, and one at Mould in north Wales. The modern spelling of the name has double g.</value>
