Epergne/Centre-Piece. Romer, Emick (Norwegian goldsmith, silversmith, 1724 to circa 1795, London). The oval openwork stand holding a central basket, with four brackets holding four small baskets. The top of the stand has a gadroon border above spreading sides, which are pierced with panels of quatrefoils, stars and lozenges between embossed scrolls. There are four cast double-scrolled legs suspended with cast and chased scrolling foliage, standing on four ornate openwork cast rocaille feet. The detachable lozenge-shaped basket is similarly pierced and embossed, with an applied openwork border of scrolls and flowers. The four scrolling branches have applied leaves. They attach to the top of the legs, and support four low circular dishes embossed with scrolling flutes and beads within an openwork applied border of scrolls and flowers. Each of the bowls is engraved with a crest of a greyhound courant in front of an oak tree for Daly, Kennedy, Molloy, or O'Mulloy. The stand and baskets are raised and pierced with applied decoration. The legs and branches are cast with applied decoration. Silver, height, overall, 35 cm, width, central basket, 28 cm, weight, whole, 2260 g, circa 1759-1760. English. Rococo.
