Textiles. Fukusa. Gift cloth. Unknown maker, Japan. Tapestry, similar to Chinese kesi, great variety of colours, some metallic thread. Two diagonally facing scenes, one of a female figure carrying a sword and riding a unicorn (kirin), the other of a pheasant and peonies. Length, whole, 63.5 cm, width, whole, 63.5 cm, circa 1854. Acquisition Credit: Given by Mrs. Soame Jenyns, in accordance with the wishes of her late husband, Soame Jenyns.
