Figure/Statue. Granite statue of Senusret III/Senwosret III. Production Place/Find Spot: Egypt. Granite, carved and polished, length 20 cm, width 15 cm, circa 1870 -1831 B.C. Twelfth Dynasty. Middle Kingdom. Production Note: The statue shows the so-called realistic type of portrait common in Dynasty 12. It is thought that the features were deliberately aged in order to show the difficulties faced by the king in Egypt during this period. It has also been suggested that the features are African.
