An image of Figure. Winter from a set of Seasons. Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, Saxony, Meissen. Eberlein, Johann Friedrich, modeller (German, 1696-1749). Winter stands with his left knee relaxed and his arms crossed in front of his chest, leaning forward slightly. He has a long grey beard, and wears a blue cloak lined with brown and white fur, which falls down from his head to the ground at the back and is held up across his loins and upper legs in his right hand. On his right, projecting partly over the edge of the base, there is a covered bowl with a fire on top of it, and on his left, is a nude, brown-haired putto cutting wood with an axe. Hard-paste porcelain, press-moulded, glazed, and painted in blue, red, flesh pink, pale and dark brown, grey, and black enamel colours, and lightly gilt on the edges of the bowl only, height, whole, 26.4 cm, width, base, 9 cm, width, whole, 14.6 cm, circa 1745.
