The trinket seller stands on a low square base, decorated with coloured flowers and foliage, partly applied and partly painted. In front of her she carries a pale brown case in which are three drawers, the pink lined lid above them raised to display various articles lying in the upmost tray, such as pencils, scissors, pince-nez, buckles, buttons, knives, and earrings. Some of these are also tucked into the two straps inside the lid. In her right hand she holds a gold tube. She wears a white frilled bonnet with a green ribbon, cut away at the back to show her short hair, a pink coat with white frilled collar and cuffs, and a pale cream skirt decorated with brown sprigs. Over this she wears a white apron with sprays of blue cornflowers, and also wears white stockings, and white shoes with red trimmings and gold buckles.
