An image of Embroidery / Cushion Cover. Unknown Maker. Linen cushion cover embroidered with polychrome silks in darning, back and satin stitch. The male figures, whether part of the three dominant rows or as smaller scale motifs at each end, carry large candles, flowers, ewers, muskets or swords and possibly a mandolin. There are two distinct dress styles, long coat and breeches or short coat and baggy breeches; heads are variously covered with long caps, turbans or hats. Length 43.5 cm, width 36.5 cm, circa 1701-1801. Skyros, Northern Sporades, Greece.
