Japanese katabori, figures and screen, by Kiyomitsu

An image of Netsuke: katabori: Figures and screen. Kiyomitsu (Japanese). Group of two figures playing kakurembo (hide-and-seek), one curled in a ball, face down, his hands over his head hiding behind a screen; the other standing barefoot in a kimono, his face covered by a grotesque mask and peering round the side of the screen which is carved with a large peony head, bud and leaves. Standing figure's outspread arm resting on the screen forms a natural himotoshi. Good patina. Wood, carved, height, whole, 3.6 cm, width, whole, 3.4 cm, circa 1868-1900. Edo Period (1615-1868).
