Its underside is dated ‘1639’ and has the initial letter ‘I’ combined with ‘B’ followed by ‘M’. The combination of ripe pomegranates with grapes (both symbols of fertility), and the precise form of the conjoined initials, make it likely that this dish was made to commemorate a marriage. This shape of bowl was known as a clapmash. It may be Netherlandish rather than English.referenceterm-121013adlib-term-121013299c1732-ddc2-3547-a136-ebe34ac3f15817th Century, second quarter#referenceterm-113823adlib-term-113823bd99bc24-55e4-332f-bb3e-5c4de69c88dcCharles Ireferenceterm-106216adlib-term-106216825b8379-ec94-388e-9a59-624e40c090d0literalEnglandEnglandcountryprobablyLondonreferenceterm-108348adlib-term-108348667e7a19-db33-3d85-bd9b-c2dafd8e02fftin-glazed earthenwareDiametercm40.5Diameterin15 15/16Heightcm11.8Heightin4 5/8referencemedia-169641adlib-media-1696417237a699-4a99-3543-b220-e60e6576c72djpegaa/aa27/C_1400_1928_20_281_29.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels63116162604221051imagejpegaa/aa27/mid_C_1400_1928_20_281_29.jpg1heightpixels602widthpixels50016162604221051imagejpegaa/aa27/C_1400_1928_20_281_29.jpg1heightpixels760widthpixels63116162604221051imagejpegaa/aa27/preview_C_1400_1928_20_281_29.jpg1heightpixels301widthpixels25016162604221051image0media
