English Delftware tea caddy and cover

An image of Tea caddy and cover/tea canister. English Delftware. Unidentified London pottery, probably. Painted in blue, with a silver-coloured metal cover. The cannister is rectangular with canted, fluted corners and projecting mouldings on the upper and lower edges of the sides. The top is flat and has a cylindrical mouth, concealed by the cover. The top is decorated with four insects and four small floral sprigs. The sides and ends are decorated with landscapes with buildings, and on the underside is an inscription in blue 'Ann Bates/ Jan ye 1st 1748 (the y and st raised or Jany, y raised). Buff earthenware, tin-glazed, and painted in blue; glaze partly removed from underside, dated 1748. Georgian.
