The basin has a flat, circular middle from which the sides rise upwards and are squared and flanged at the top of the front and sides; the back is higher and has a flat edge at the top. On the viewer’s left side, there is a twisted loop handle attached to the back at the top and to the top of the flange on the side; the handle on the viewer’s right has been broken off, and is missing. The inside of the base and back are each decorated with an incised floral spray painted here and there with green, and with incised squiggles and strokes in the spaces. Above, on the back, is the date, '1678'. The top edge of the flanges on the front and sides are incised with interlacing curved lines forming alternating ellipses painted green and lozenge-shapes filled with incised criss-cross pattern, appearing red.
