The vessel has a near-spherical shape with a wide mouth. The outside is polished; the interior is multifaceted with a rough surface; the walls are thick with an indented rim around the mouth to hold the insert; the underside is flat, circular and polished. The insert is a smooth, flat disc, with an off-centre circular hole, coloured with irregular, roughly concentric bands of fused opaque grey, blue, turquoise, pink and red glass. Between the bands and in the centre are wider areas of translucent cobalt blue glass, in which cell-like forms can be seen.referenceexhibition-3693adlib-exhibition-36939e3cab43-2466-3751-b113-9ee6cbd630f3Of the Earth, Contemporary Ceramics and Glass from The Fitzwilliam MuseumC.46 & A-20171accession numberC.46 & A-2017223080priref223080Entry form no.1336urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/223080https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/223080around side of baseetchedAngela Jarman 2017markreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumGiven by Nicholas and Judith Goodison through The Art Fundreferenceagent-156032adlib-agent-1560323aded83c-6f5c-39b8-a50c-07f712e01b2cGoodison, Nicholas and Judith201720172017-10-20given2017CE20172017makerreferenceagent-179557adlib-agent-17955766a97560-ec30-332d-8e0b-b4df95513319Jarman, AngelaAngela Jarman (b.1971, London) studied at West Surrey College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art and is a freelance lecturer in glass sculpting. Her glass sculptures, produced by lost wax casting, explore form, texture, colour and light, and comment on the impact of scientific developments, such as genetic modification, on nature. She seeks to: ‘create pieces which have a sense of beauty, but which also have a quality which makes them slightly strange and disturbing, [with] a lurking sense of unease.”Murrini, glass mosaic that resembles agate stone, is characterised by fusing together differently coloured glass into concentric streaks, typically of purple and white. The process was known in Roman times and rediscovered by Venetian glass-makers in the 16th and 19th centuries.referenceterm-109891adlib-term-109891ad6efeb2-90e2-3107-ada3-8348ed09c40f21st Century, Earlyreferenceterm-107700adlib-term-1077008f5360fb-b262-3ae9-8942-b81cc0e3e848Elizabeth IIreferenceterm-91170adlib-term-91170d49ca0b4-ccae-3039-afe0-882c186cff25glassDiametercm20Heightcm12.5referencemedia-205659adlib-media-2056591c228b3f-cd3b-3c6c-be0f-21848ec8f4fcjpegaa/aa37/C_46_20_26_20A_2017_1_201711_sjc288_dc2.jpg1heightpixels1025widthpixels100317029264720751imagejpegaa/aa37/mid_C_46_20_26_20A_2017_1_201711_sjc288_dc2.jpg1heightpixels511widthpixels50017029264720751imagejpegaa/aa37/C_46_20_26_20A_2017_1_201711_sjc288_dc2.jpg1heightpixels1025widthpixels100317029264720751imagejpegaa/aa37/preview_C_46_20_26_20A_2017_1_201711_sjc288_dc2.jpg1heightpixels255widthpixels25017029264720751image0media
