Wedgwood Queen's ware plate with Corinthian ruins

An image of Plate. Corinthian Ruins. Wedgwood, Josiah (English potter, 1730-1795). Green, Guy, printer (British ceramist, act.1756-1799). This design was known as Corinthian Ruins, but was derived from plate 1 in Robert Sayer's, The Ruins of Athens. Circular with featheredge, sloping rim, shallow curved sides, and flat centre. Decorated in the middle with Bridge over the River Ilissus and the Temple of Pola in Istria, and on the rim, with six floral sprays. Cream-coloured earthenware (Queen's ware), moulded, lead-glazed, and printed onglaze in black, height, whole, 2.3 cm, width, whole, 24.3 cm, circa 1770-1775. Rococo.
