Teapot and stand, New Hall Factory

An image of Teapot and stand. New Hall Porcelain Factory, Staffordshire. The teapot and cover (A) are of oval ogee form. The stand (B) is oval with sloping sides and flat base. There are ten holes forming an ellipse surrounding one hole behind the spout, one ventilation hole in the cover, and anothe under the knob. The exterior of the pot is decorated below the shoulder by border comprising a wavy black stem with tiny trefoil leaves, puce berries, and gold trefoil leaves. Above the shoulder there is an an arrangment of gold foliage on each side of the pot and a gold sprig at each end. Gold bands run found the footring, the shoulder, the rim, the sides of the handle, and the tip of the spout. There is a vertical gold line down the back of the handle. Each side of the spout is decorated with a row of gold stars over a line which runs on round its junction with the body. Below the lip there is a gold wavy dotted line over a vertical row of narrow leaves altenating with spots. The cover is decorated en suite, and has eight swirling gold lines radiating from the top of the knob. The stand has a central stylized star-like flower surrounded by an oval gold band, a matching border, and a gold band on the edge. Pattern no. 280. Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, moulded, glazed, painted overglaze with black and puce enamel, and gilded. Height, teapot, 17.5 cm, length, teapot, 24.2 cm, height, stand, 2 cm, length, stand, 17.7 cm, width, stand, 14.6 cm, circa 1797-1803.
