Engraved gems/ringstone/intaglio. An astronomer wearing a himation, left arm and shoulder bare, sitting on the ground beneath a tree, in profile to the left. He is measuring a globe with compasses held in his right hand; the sun, the moon and five stars above him, formerly picked out with pyretic inclusions. Mount: gold ring, type 1a. Intaglio cutting. Lapis lazuli, 12.5 mm, 10.5 mm, circa 1500-1600.
