Metalwork / Mortar. A squat-shaped mortar with inlaid decoration of white metal. Round the waist twelve wedge shaped bosses or lugs, 1 3/4 ins. in length, arranged to alternately taper upwards and downwards, in between each lug a leaf design in white metal, round the base a fret border, at the top a double fret border separated by a plain narrow panel. Bronze, height, whole, 3 3/4 in, diameter, whole, 5 ¼ in, circa 1300-1400. Mamluk. Islamic. Production Place: Egypt.
