An image of Claret jug. Marks, Gilbert Leigh, silversmith (1861-1905). Facetted, lightly hammered sides decorated with a swag of vine leaves, grapes and ribbons. The tall slender jug has an ovoid body, which is facetted and spot hammered, and is decorated round its shoulders with a swag of vine leaves, grapes on ribbons. It stands on a slightly domed circular food, which is embossed with a border of stylised leaves. The cast harp-shaped handle has stylised shell terminals. Silver, facetted and spot-hammered, with embossed and chased decoration, and cast handle; the interior gilt, height, to top of handle, 30.6 cm, width, overall, 15.4 cm, weight, whole, 860 g, 1898-1899.
