The style is a form of 'Corinthian' with spirals perhaps imitating foliage rather than the spirals that are associated with the so-called Ionic form dating to the Greek and Roman periods. The object is said to have come from a church near Argin, North of the Wadi Halfa in Nubia and can be associated with a similar piece (E.174.1912) and also a shaft (E.171.1912).
