Having learned cabinet-making from his grandfather, he followed studies in engineering and computer science at Trinity College, Dublin with a Diploma of Furniture Design at John Makepeace’s Parnham College. He works mainly in Irish hardwoods, producing both serial and bespoke furniture. This chair was inspired by the painting by Egon Schiele, "Seated Woman with Bent Knees" (1917), from which it derives its form and colouring. Striking for its innovation and technical quality, the design captures the figure of the seated woman using the simple elements of legs turned from solid pine and slats of steam bent beech, held together with polished mild steel bars.
