Fritware bowl, Seljuk

An image of Islamic pottery. Bowl. Production Place: Kashan. Shape: carinated bowl with a plain rim, sits on a slightly flared foot ring. Interior: on the rim black dentilation is reserved in a band of blue that is enclosed by a black line. On the body, a fleurs-de-lys pattern radiates from the base. In the roundel, framed by a black band and dashes, a stylised floral spray is reserved in blue. Glaze defects on the roundel. Exterior: on the rim blue pigment spills over from the interior. On the body black water weeds are painted. Glaze covers the surface, running unevenly on the foot ring; a light covering of glaze is present on the underside of the foot ring. Fritware, probably wheel thrown, painted in black and blue under a transparent white glaze. 1200-1220. Lent by the Ades family.
