Studio Ceramics. Jar and Lid/Seed Jar. Wood fired Bizen seed jar (tane-tsubo) in high fired stoneware, with characteristic dark red brown body. Unglazed except for yellow ochre? goma? (patches of fly ash) on shoulder and rim. Some feldspar inclusions. With throwing rings. Kiln mark incised on shoulder. There is also an incised line 2.5 times around the shoulder. 1500-1599. Japanese. Acquisition: Dr John Shakeshaft Bequest.
