Stoneware dish, by Edward Hughes

An image of Studio Ceramics. Dish. Hughes, Edward (British, 1953-2006). Circular with curved sides and narrow upturned sloping rim, standing on a footring. The ground is variegated shades of brown, reddish-brown, and yellowish-brown on both sides. The front (interior) is slip-trailed in reddish-brown with pairs of lines, wavy lines, and small spirals, and there are areas of gold speckles here and there. The base is decorated in reddish-brown with trellis pattern, and on the ouside of the sides there are six fish-shapes, each filled with a wavy line and spots. In the centre of the base there is a small unglazed area. Stoneware, slip-decorated, glazed, and reduction-fired, height, whole, 7.9 cm, diameter, whoe, 50.1 cm, 1997.
