The lead-glaze is very sligthly yellow. The ovoid pot has rouletted beading round the base and mouth, a curved fluted spout with pointed leaves round its junction with the body, and seven holes behind it to emit the tea. The double entwined reeded handle has four leafy termals. The almost flat cover has a rouletted beading border, a ventilation hole, and a convolvulus-shaped knob. One side is painted with a parrot perching in a tree and pecking cherries. The other side is painted with two large red roses and foliage. It produced creamware with transfer-printed and hand-painted enamelled decoration, often in red, green and black, as on this teapot. The parrot on one side was derived from a 'Parrot Pecking Fruit' , an engraving by Robert Hancock published in Robert Sayer's 'The Ladies Amuseument or, Whole Art of Japanning made Easy', 2nd edition, c. 1762.
