English stoneware mug with a herring bone pattern

An image of Mug. Unknown maker, England, Nottingham. The mug is cylindrical but slightly flattened where the handle has been pushed to make it adhere to the side. Around the middle there is a wide band of complex herring bone pattern applied with a roulette. The vertically reeded strap handle has a flattened kick at the lower end which was applied over the rouletted band. Brown stoneware, thrown, turned, and rouletted, with an applied reeded handle, and salt-glaze. The surface has a very high lustrous sheen. Height, whole, 9.3 cm, width, whole, 9.2 cm, diameter, base, 7 cm, circa 1755-1770. Sir Ivor and Lady Batchelor Bequest.
