Inkpot and pen case. Unknown pottery, England, Staffordshire. Cylindrical ink pot with double walls, the outer wall pierced with perforations in the shape of the four different pips of a pack of cards. The lid forming a sheath for a quill pen, is of tapering cylindrical form with a rounded end, and attachs by a screw to the neck of the pot. On the base the initials and date 'H:P/1757' are painted in red. White salt-glazed stoneware, moulded in two parts, the lower part pierced, and inscribed in red enamel. Height, whole, 17.5 cm, dated 1757.
