Japanese fukusa with two scenes

An image of Textiles. Fukusa. Gift cloth. Unknown maker, Japan. Tapestry, similar to Chinese kesi, great variety of colours, some metallic thread. Two diagonally facing scenes, one of a female figure carrying a sword and riding a unicorn (kirin), the other of a pheasant and peonies. Length, whole, 63.5 cm, width, whole, 63.5 cm, circa 1854. Acquisition Credit: Given by Mrs. Soame Jenyns, in accordance with the wishes of her late husband, Soame Jenyns.
