Silver beaker, by Dietrich von Rath

An image of Beaker. Rath, Dietrich von (German, act.1604-1657). Note: Rath is also spelt Rodt. The sloping cylindrical silver sides with a broad border of embossed lobes alternating with matted panels. The sides are slightly everted at the top, where there is a silver-gilt border of engraved scrolling foliage. Half way down the beaker is an applied silver-gilt moulded border. Beneath this is an alternating pattern of embossed lobes and matted panels. At the base is a narrow silver-gilt applied border above the foot ring. Silver, parcel-gilt, height, to rim, 8.5 cm, diameter, rim, 7.6 cm, diameter, base, 5.7 cm, weight, whole, 115 g, circa 1600-1620.
