  • Illuminated manuscript. Leaf from a Doge’s Commission. Huntington Master. Illumination, penwork, parchment, gold, 200 x 139 mm, circa 1585 to circa 1595. Production Place: Italy, Venice. CONTENTS: Commission from Doge Pascale Cicogna (1585-1595) to a member of the Capello family. DECORATION: Full-page oval miniature with Doge enthroned and presenting a richly bound book to the kneeling holder of the commission, with vision of Christ in sky above, framed by a full border of gold formal ornament with the arms of the Capello family in the lower bar. ORNAMENTATION: The opening lines of the text are written in gold epigraphic capitals.
