Japanese pottery. Small plate for food. Kenzan, pottery studio, Japan, Kyoto. A square plate, small and shallow. Underglaze brushwork of pine in black, together with inscriptions in Chinese characters. Cloud decorations around the outside. Maker's mark and inscriptions in Chinese; on the plate; brushed; five Chinese characters poem and the signature KENZAN painted on the plate; five Chinese characters poem read ' the charming spring ivy blooming all over the valley' painted by KENZAN. Stoneware, hand-built, brush painting in black pigment, height 2.00 cm, width of the square, whole, 9.50 cm, larger, circa 1700-circa 1799. Edo Period (1615-1868).
