Illuminated manuscript. Leaf from a Dogeâs Commission. Huntington Master. Illumination, penwork, parchment and gold, 220 x 159 mm, circa 1578 to circa 1585. Production Place: Italy, Venice. CONTENT: Commission from Doge NiccolÃ² da Ponte (r. 1578-1585) appointing Alberto Baduario as podestÃ of Verona. DECORATION: Full-page miniature with St Francis presenting Alberto Baduario who kneels with hand placed on a richly bound volume with attached seal, probably his commissione, set in an oval frame of gold architectural ornament with Baduario arms in lower section, and lion of St Mark holding open book with text PAX TIBI MARCO EVANGELI[STA] MEUS. ORNAMENTATION: Two gold initials [ 2 ll.] with gold foliate flourishing; the first four lines of the text and the names Alberto Baduario and Veronae written in gold epigraphic capitals.
