An image of Jewellery. Torc. Dahl, Emil Ferdinand (Danish, d. 1879). Formed by two overlapping tubes, each with a concealed hinge, fastening at centre back. Inscribed on the underside at the front 'M. Halkett d 24 Debr 1868'. In original light red leather case (A), lined with purple velvet and silk, bearing a black label, printed in gold 'E.F. DAHL,/ Hof-Juveleer,/ Østergade 53./ KJØBENHAVN’. Gold with engraved decoration, diameter, whole, 14.6 cm, circa 1857 to circa 1868. Archaeological Style. Acquisition Credit: Given by Mrs J. Hull Grundy. Production Note: The design of this necklet was based on a necklet, probably of the early 5th century AD found in 1857 in Øland (Hjørring county), a small island west of Aalborg in Limfjorden, now in the National Museum, Copenhagen, inv. no. 16398.
