Engraved gems. Plaque. The Fall of Man. Lehmann, Kaspar (German glass engraver, gem carver, b.1563-1565, d.1622). Adam and Eve, naked, standing on a grassy mound to each side of an apple tree which has a serpent entwined around the trunk. The serpent offers an apple to Eve who passes it to Adam, whose left hand is outstretched to receive it. Foliate ornament in the angles to right and left. The frame is decorated with gold scrollwork reserved in the black ground. Rock crystal (quartz), wheel engraved, and set in a lozenge-shaped gold frame enamelled black, height, 75 mm, width, 85 mm, dept, 10 mm, circa 1600-1700. German.
