Silver monteith inscribed 'The token of Mr. Jasper Roth..'

An image of Monteith. Punch bowl. BI or RI, silversmith, England, London. Large hemispherical bowl with removable rim with scroll border. The body of the large hemisperical bowl is embossed with bats-wing fluting. In the front there is an oval cartouche containing a crest within an engraved Baroque border. The bowl stands on a stepped and spreading circular foot with a gadroon border. The removable rim has an applied scroll border, which is decorated with matting and scalework. Beneath this is chased a narrow border of matt scallops and punched flowers. The base is inscribed 'The token of/ Mr. Jasper Roth/ to his friend/ Aldn. James Clark'. Silver, raised, embossed, chased, and engraved, height, to rim, 23.7 cm, diameter, across rim, 33.5 cm, 1707-1708. Late 17th or early 18th century.
