The face has been carved from sycomore fig, with sidr and sycomore fig dowels. Preserved on the head is an ornamental band with an upside lotus flower in the centre. This flower suggests that the face may come from a woman’s coffin, although this feature is also found on men’s coffins as well. The chin and nose were heavily restored sometime in the early twentieth century.
