Two-handled loving cup. Langlands, John, I (British, free 1754; died 1793). The circular foot and stem raised in one piece, and supporting a deep cup with rounded base, straight sides, an applied horizontal moulding about a third of the way up, and a slightly everted rim. The plain S-scroll handles have a slight inward curve at the top to serve as a thumb rest. Near the top of one handle are the initials of a man and wife, 'M/I N'. Newcastle-upon-tyne, England. Silver, height, to rim, 13 cm, width, across handles, 18.1 cm, diameter, rim, 10.1 cm, c.1774-1775.
