Radiating from the base and occupying the body, a black ‘Maltese’ cross, painted with blue edging, contains Arabic inscriptions (cursive) in reserve. Four panels created by this cross contain, in their upper sections, a black lobbed medallion with cross hatched central lozenge and sprouting ‘V’ shapes containing peacock’s eyes painted on a blue background. These medallions are flanked by black ferns. On the base, within a pair of concentric lines, the narrowest sections of the panels contain black flowers highlighted with blue. Exterior: all decoration is painted in black, with a concentric band on the rim and circular scrolls with outlined leaves on the body. On the foot ring, glaze runs unevenly over the surface and a clay adhesion indicates contact with another vessel in the kiln.
