Stoneware plaque. The Farnese Hercules. Wedgwood, Josiah, Wedgwood & Bentley factory (English, 1730-1795, Staffordshire). Flaxman, John (British, 1755-1826). Oval, with standing figure of Hercules leaning on his club which is propped on a rock on his left. Jasper ware, solid pale blue with darker blue wash on the upper surface, and white moulded relief, height, whole, 8.3 cm, width, whole, 6.8 cm, circa 1777-1780. Modelled by John Flaxman in 1776. Neoclassical.
