The sides are decorated with a lower border of alternating roundels and leaves reserved in a striated band with narrow bands of engine turning above and below; the upper border is of bright-cut paterae, Vitruvian scrolls and foliage. The lid has borders of machine engraved decoration. Below the lock is a crest of a boar's head over the initials 'JML'. On the back is engraved a coat of arms, sable goutté argent, a canton ermine.
