The underside is hollow and unglazed. The figures stand on a high oblong mound of rocks and plants, with a wide tree stump in the middle at the back which supports the bull. The powerful and angry bull is moving towards the viewer's left with its head down and tail raised over its back. The attacking dog is crouched at the front of the base close to the bull's left front leg and head. The mound is coloured in greyish-brown and green glazes. The bull is white with dappling in manganese-purple, and the dog is greyish-brown with paler patches on its back and sides.
