Shape: hemispherical bowl with straight sided neck and plain rim, sits on a low foot ring.
Interior: under the rim a narrow frieze rosettes and ‘saz’ type leaves on a background of dots and scrolling tendrils. On the body two friezes, one wide and one narrow, contain lobbed and circular medallions, or lobbed archways containing pierced decoration on a background of dots, rosettes and occasional birds. In the roundel, contained within a concentric band of ‘Y’ shapes, three birds perch on floral sprays. Glaze covers the surface unevenly in the roundel where three scar marks indicate the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln.
Exterior: the interior decoration is mirrored on the exterior except the lower, wider frieze which here incorporates pointed archways containing alternately piercing or vertical floral sprays. Glaze runs over the lower body and foot ring unevenly, leaving areas uncovered. A potter’s mark is located on the underside of the foot ring.C.4-19131accession numberC.4-191374994priref74994urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/74994https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/74994hand painted onto the vessel surface under the glazeexterior base (underside of foot ring)hand painted in blacklines and dotsinscriptionreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumGiven by the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museumreferenceagent-149645adlib-agent-14964510925b71-6838-30f7-a8dd-b68a2afaa14dThe Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum191319131913givenEntry date: 1913-10-27180018001800circa18001900119001900circa1900potterreferenceagent-149652adlib-agent-1496520d4f90dc-b166-3d4b-b0db-25f4118b6e98UnknownProbably related to ‘Nayin’ types that are commonly painted in blue and blackreferenceterm-106853adlib-term-10685325492eb4-1164-35eb-8dce-3601486f341519th Centuryblackreferenceterm-31338adlib-term-31338592bb158-b2e6-372c-ab3a-42267397cb42pigmentturquoisereferenceterm-32652adlib-term-3265282d8ae3b-f165-395c-ba93-dfa1c282b7beglazereferenceterm-108851adlib-term-10885124e00e11-7f5d-3ad5-acda-1a5b13378105fritwareHeightcm12.2Weightg888Widthcm25.2referencemedia-43934adlib-media-439345a74ee71-e1a2-3d7f-8a61-ea7739678c8fjpegaa/aa16/C_4_1913_281_29.jpg1heightpixels550widthpixels76017029267125131imagejpegaa/aa16/mid_C_4_1913_281_29.jpg1heightpixels362widthpixels50017029267125131imagejpegaa/aa16/C_4_1913_281_29.jpg1heightpixels550widthpixels76017029267125131imagejpegaa/aa16/preview_C_4_1913_281_29.jpg1heightpixels181widthpixels25017029267125131image0media
