On the viewer's right there is a brown column decorated with reliefs, on which there is a pile of three books. Milton stands on his right leg with his left advanced. His head is turned to his right, and he rests his left lower arm on the top of the books, and holds his right arm across his body. In his left hand he holds an unrolled scroll. He has long brown hair and wears a dark yellow jacket, reddish-brown breeches, white stockings and black shoes. A green cloak with a pink lining hangs from his left shoulder down to his heels at the back, and is held across his body with his right hand. This earthenware model may have been produced from a plaster cast by Cheere or by Peter Vanina, whose initials occur on other examples.
