Cylindrical with sloping shoulders, gently curved spout, and large intertwined rope handle, with split ends resembling leaves extending horizontally along the sides of the pot for a short distance on each side. The base and shoulder have a band of rouletted beading. The circular cover is slightly domed, and is pierced by a hole. It has a band of rouletted beading near the edge, and a knob in the shape of a flower on a stalk with two leaves. A flange under the rim fits inside the neck of the pot. One side of the pot is decorated with a spray of stylized flowers and foliage, enclosed by an oval frame of stylized fern fronds and tendrils. On the other side is the inscription 'I: Chapman/1774' enclosed by a similar wreath. The shoulder has a stylized floral spry on each side.The cover is decorated with two stylized floral sprays, and the knob is picked out in lilac and has two green leaves.
