  • Illuminated manuscript leaf. Cutting. Leaf from a Doge’s Commission. Master To. Ve. Parchment, gold, 230 x 265 mm, pasted on a paper mount, verso not visible, circa 1560. Production Place: Venice, Italy. DECORATION: Full-page miniature of the Virgin and Child enthroned beneath a canopy and surrounded by putti, with St Jerome holding an open book and a kneeling figure with pilgrim’s staff and badge, the whole set within a full border with river gods and nymphs painted in chiaroscuro gold on brown ground.
